How to Use Storytelling in Your Marketing
Every business has a story and storytelling can be the most effective form of marketing. It’s fun, interesting and pulls your reader/prospect in. So you will want to incorporate storytelling into your marketing whether it is through video or a social media campaign.
Your story can be about how you started as a company, how you help your clients or your mission to change the world. Plot out your story to have a beginning, middle and end. Make sure to highlight the problem and how to solved it or persevered. What did you learn? How did you make the world a better place? Think about stories like The Odyssey, Mrs. Piggle Wiggle, Moby Dick, A Christmas Carol, Atlas Shrugged, To Kill a Mockingbird, George Orwell’s 1984 and Shakespeare Classics. Some teach us a lesson, some warn us about things that could happen if we don’t change and others do things against the norm. Take a look at this list for inspiration:
Once you have selected your story you want to put it to work. This can be in a YouTube video. It can be in an Instagram Story, a series of Facebook ads or in a Pinterest storyboard. I have even made a simple slideshow using Adobe’s Premier Rush.
Video is so powerful today because it gets premier placement on many of the social media platforms. If a picture is worth a thousand words, video is worth ten thousand. it just conveys messages better. So how do you get over your fear of appearing before the camera? Practice.
I started by recording to the cloud on Zoom. I could alter the background and delete it if I didn’t like it before publishing. This gave me confidence and I could see when I was being dull or didn’t emphasize the right words. I also made videos and still don’t love the Live platforms, but will do them because they work.

Nike is one of the best at storytelling with the message of inspiration. Below is one I particularly like.
